Physical Activity

European Schools Sports Day

On 27th September, our school took part in the European Schools Sports Day. All classes from Junior Infants up to 6th class had great fun participating in various activities such as soccer matches, obstacle courses, keeping the ball moving and dancing. Everyone had great fun and it was lovely to see the children being active with a smile on their faces.

Why not learn Maths and be active at the same time?

During Maths week, we decided to be active when learning Maths. 4th class went on a Maths trail around the school and 1st class when on a Shape walk to find all shapes they could.

The rain didn't stop us from having fun. While our Halloween Walk had to take place indoors, all children enjoyed the parade and getting to show their costumes to the other classes.

Even the staff joined in in the fun!

Our students were very creative with their costumes!

Halloween Walk

FAI Primary Schools Futsal

4th class went into Kilkenny and took part in the FAI Primary Schools Futsal blitz. They got to learn some new soccer skills while having so much fun too.

Skippy John

Skippy John spent a full day in our school working with each class. He showed us the correct way to skip and explained the importance of staying fit. All the children enjoyed their time with Skippy John. We saw some fantastic skipping talents among the children and got to try out new skipping techniques too!

Active Break Every Day

We took part in 'Active Break Every Day' from 4th November to 29th November. This is a four week initiative where each class were active each day over the four weeks during class time for a short period. Lots of dancing, running, skipping and many exercises were used. We found it a fantastic way to help children concentrate better in the classroom.

Santa Walk and Treasury Hunt

All classes took part in our Santa Walk  and Christmas Treasury Hunt. There was plenty of good Christmas cheer from everyone with Christmas song singing echoing around the village!

Cycle Safety Training Course

4th class were delighted to get out on the bikes in the start of their 6 week block of 'Cycle Training For All'. This course is a fantastic way to to teach cycle safety and encouraging them to put in place the habit of exercise.

Active School Walkway

Our Active School Walkway has been launched!

We are delighted to have our AS walkway ready for use. Children have the opportunity to walk and talk during lunch and teachers can use it through our cross curricular link.

Run Around Ireland

There was so much fun with each class as we ran daily to various landmarks around Ireland. One lap of our pitch represented 1km. We ran as near as Kilkenny Castle and as far as Malin Head.

Playground Leaders

Our playground leaders do a great job working with the younger classes where they do daily exercises as each lunch break ends.

Breaktime Play Equipment

All classes love the opportunity to have resources to play with during break time. This encourages the children to keep active, work as a team and learn skills on how to resolve conflictions that may occur.
