Creative outdoor project

In 2020 Scoil Bhríde became involved in a Creative Cluster Project with 4 other local schools. We decided that our project would be to create a nice outdoor space in our school for everyone to enjoy.  Our pupils and staff offer great ideas for the space.

We decided the area behind the shed would make a lovely garden & outdoor classroom area. We are going to get a polytunnel to help us with our vegetable and flower planting. Just before the school closed we planted a willow fence to make an entrance to this area.

We planted apple trees with the apple tree project and they will come back to help us juice them next year.

We already had some vegetable beds but they needed some revamping. Our school caretaker, John, did a great job on them and they are ready to use again. We did not get to plant in them because of the school being closed. However, during the summer, a polytunnel was added to the garden space and we are looking forward to planting lots of vegetables and harvesting them during this year.

On Oct 12th there was great excitement in 2nd Class when Ms Marnell brought our new hens to school. John made a great house for them.... they even have a swing and a ladder to get up their bed! They are very popular with children from everyclass visiting them everyday. 2nd Class collect the eggs each day. They all got one egg each first and now they are selling the eggs to make some money to feed the hens. We named the hens

Getting to work in our polytunnel

19th November 2020

Mrs O Neill's 6th Class planted broad beans in trays in the polytunnel. We hope they will grow and that we will harvest them before we leave the school next June!!

6th Class enjoyed painting the mural as we began work on our sensory courtyard.
